SAN FELICE DEL BENACO (BS): La prima gara di stagione, la 100^ Coppa San Geo – Trofeo Caduti di Soprazzocco, vede gli atleti del Team MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB ottenere un 4° ed un 5° posto con Matteo Ambrosini e Lorenzo Masciarelli. Il bilancio di squadra è arricchito dal 10° posto di Samuel Quaranta.

La gara internazionale ha visto vincere Bryan Olivo (CTF) che ha preceduto Davide Donati (Biesse Carrera) e Giovanni Bortoluzzi (General Store Essegibi F.lli Curia) al termine di 157 km coperti in 4h 04’52 alla velocità media di 38,641. Una prova con un finale decisamente impegnativo che si è disputata sotto la pioggia battente, mentre alla partenza si era palesato un timido sole.

DICHIARAZIONI: Ambrosini si è dimostrato battagliero, andando a scollinare sempre nei primi tre al gran premio della montagna di Cisano da ripetere 6 volte. È il corridore veneto che racconta le sue emozioni subito dopo l’arrivo, ancora tremante per il freddo. “Sono rimasto sorpreso dalla mia bella partenza, sapevo di avere buone gambe, ma il mio picco di rendimento è previsto più avanti quindi giudico la San Geo molto positiva”.

Sul finale, “Avevo veramente freddo. Battevo i denti e faticavo a rimanere concentrato. Comunque sono stato pronto a rispondere agli attacchi degli avversari ed ho sempre superato il GPM nelle prime 3 posizioni. All’ultimo giro mi ero illuso di riuscire a fare il vuoto con altri 2 corridori, ma poi siamo stati raggiunti”. Lo sprint: “Tenevo d’occhio Federico Guzzo che sembrava essere il più forte durante la corsa, ma evidentemente è arrivato nel finale stanco e sono rimasto leggermente attardato nello sprint finale. Ho rimontato 2-3 corridori, ma il podio è sfuggito. Peccato”. Ambrosini guarda già avanti. “Ora per me ci sarà il Trofeo Laigueglia, un blocco di lavoro in altura, la Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali e poi le gare internazionali di aprile”. Il giudizio tecnico spetta a Gianluca Valoti e Rosselle Dileo oggi in ammiraglia. “La squadra ha dimostrato di esserci, Ambrosini e Masciarelli dovevano entrare nelle azioni di fuga ed hanno centrato il risultato. Certo, allo sprint si poteva fare meglio”.

FIRENZE EMPOLI: Colpaccio sfiorato alla Firenze Empoli, dove Pavel Novak è stato protagonista di una grande azione di fuga, ripresa a poche centinaia di metri dall’arrivo. Il ceko, in avanscoperta per oltre 100 km, ha avuto anche 3’ di vantaggio. “Una grande azione – le parole di Antonio Bevilacqua – ed il ragazzo ha dimostrato di aver lavorato con profitto quest’inverno. Consideriamo questa corsa come una prova generale verso appuntamenti a lui più indicati”.

CIPOLLINI KO: Caduta invece per Edoardo Cipollini. Il toscano ha riportato una botta al ginocchio ed alcuni punti di sutura al labbro.

NOVAK LONG BREAKAWAY IN TUSCANY 

SAN FELICE DEL BENACO (BS): The first race of the season, the 100th Coppa San Geo – Trofeo Caduti di Soprazzocco, saw Team MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB athletes achieve a 4th and 5th place with Matteo Ambrosini and Lorenzo Masciarelli. The team’s performance was further enriched by Samuel Quaranta’s 10th place.
The international race was won by Bryan Olivo (CTF), followed by Davide Donati (Biesse Carrera) and Giovanni Bortoluzzi (General Store Essegibi F.lli Curia), after covering 157 km in 4h 04’52 at an average speed of 38.641 km/h. A challenging race with a demanding finale that took place under heavy rain, while a timid sun had appeared at the start.
REACTIONS: Ambrosini proved to be a fighter, consistently cresting among the top three at the Cisano mountain prime, repeated 6 times. It’s the Venetian rider who shares his emotions immediately after the finish, still trembling from the cold. “I was surprised by my good start; I knew I had good legs, but my peak performance is expected later, so I judge the San Geo very positively.”

Regarding the finale, “I was really cold. My teeth were chattering, and I struggled to stay focused. However, I was ready to respond to the attacks of my opponents, and I always passed the mountain prime in the top 3 positions. On the last lap, I hoped to break away with two other riders, but then we were caught up.”

About the sprint: “I kept an eye on Federico Guzzo, who seemed to be the strongest during the race, but apparently he arrived tired in the finale, and I was slightly delayed in the final sprint. I overtook 2-3 riders, but the podium slipped away. It’s a shame.”

Ambrosini is already looking ahead. “Now I have the Trofeo Laigueglia ahead of me, a block of altitude training, the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, and then the international races in April.” The technical assessment is left to Gianluca Valoti and Rosselle Dileo in the team car today. “The team showed good things; Ambrosini and Masciarelli were supposed to get into the breakaways, and they achieved the result. Of course, we could have done better in the sprint.”

FIRENZE EMPOLI: At the Firenze Empoli race, Pavel Novak was the protagonist of a great breakaway action, caught just a few hundred meters from the finish line.
