COTTBUS (GER): C’è tanta MBH Colpack Ballan CSB nel terzetto della velocità a squadre che si è aggiudicata l’oro agli Europei di Cottbus, in Germania. I nostri tesserati Daniele Napolitano e Stefano Minuta, con Mattia Predomo, hanno infatti piegato in finale la Gran Bretagna (Ledingham Horn, Hiley e Norris) che ha ottenuto l’argento davanti alla Polonia (Wisniewski, Burawski e Bednarek). Per la formazione italo-ungherese una grande soddisfazione, in una disciplina come quella della pista, in cui si è sempre creduto.
“Facciamo i complimenti ai nostri ragazzi – commenta Rossella Dileo – per il risultato e soprattutto per l’impegno profuso sin qui. Noi li supportiamo per quello che possiamo con l’augurio che in futuro possano entrare a far parte di un corpo militare.” I pistard che si dedicano alla velocità svolgono un’attività di preparazione molto diversa rispetto agli stradisti, con molte sessioni in palestra e un lavoro volto a valorizzare l’esplosività.
Il primo a prendere la parola è Stefano Minuta, torinese classe 2004. “È stata tosta, per di più noi italiani gareggiavamo senza il frazionista di riserva. Gli inglesi sono andati più forti di noi nella semifinale. Ma nella finale hanno vinto quelli con più carattere, e quelli siamo stati noi. Che bello vincere questa maglia. Per me, i miei cari, per il team e per l’Italia.”
L’altro piemontese è Daniele Napolitano, di un anno più esperto e proveniente da Ciriè, nella cintura torinese: “Una giornata durissima per tutti e tre, per la lunga distanza da percorrere rispetto a una pista indoor (si è gareggiato in un velodromo semi-coperto). Sapevamo che potevamo fare bene, ma fino all’ultimo non si sa mai… Dopo la semifinale, vedendo il tempo degli inglesi, avevamo un po’ di timore di giocarcela sul filo del rasoio. Ho detto ai miei compagni, stanchi pure loro, che era una questione di volontà e non tecnica. E così è stato: la fame di vincere ci ha portato sul gradino più alto davanti a una squadra molto forte che si è sempre portata a casa tanti titoli. Mi sono fidato ciecamente dei miei compagni, del CT Ivan Quaranta e dello staff che ci ha seguito. Con testa e cuore si può fare l’impossibile.”
Il programma vede Matteo Fiorin impegnato nell’eliminazione e nel chilometro da fermo. Samuel Quaranta è invece alle prese con lo scratch mercoledì, l’inseguimento a squadre mercoledì e giovedì, e Madison domenica.

COTTBUS (GER): There is a strong presence of MBH Colpack Ballan CSB in the team that won the gold in the team sprint at the European Championships in Cottbus, Germany. Our members Daniele Napolitano and Stefano Minuta, along with Mattia Predomo, defeated Great Britain (Ledingham Horn, Hiley, and Norris) in the final, who took the silver, ahead of Poland (Wisniewski, Burawski, and Bednarek). It is a great satisfaction for the Italian-Hungarian team in a discipline like track cycling, in which they have always believed.
“We congratulate our boys,” comments Rossella Dileo, “for the result and especially for the commitment they have shown so far. We support them as much as we can with the hope that in the future they can join a military team.” Track cyclists who specialize in sprinting undergo very different training from road cyclists, with many gym sessions and work focused on enhancing explosiveness.
The first to speak is Stefano Minuta, a Turin native born in 2004. “It was tough, especially since we Italians were racing without a reserve sprinter. The British were faster than us in the semifinals. But in the final, the ones with more character won, and that was us. It’s great to win this jersey. For me, my loved ones, the team, and for Italy.”
The other Piedmontese is Daniele Napolitano, a year older and from Ciriè, in the Turin metropolitan area: “It was a very tough day for all three of us, due to the long distance to cover compared to an indoor track (we raced in a semi-covered velodrome). We knew we could do well, but you never know until the end… After the semifinal, seeing the British time, we were a bit afraid of playing it down to the wire. I told my teammates, also tired, that it was a matter of willpower, not technique. And so it was: the hunger to win brought us to the top step in front of a very strong team that has always won many titles. I blindly trusted my teammates, the CT Ivan Quaranta, and the staff who followed us. With head and heart, you can achieve the impossible.”
The program sees Matteo Fiorin engaged in the elimination race and the kilometer from a standing start. Samuel Quaranta is instead busy with the scratch race on Wednesday, the team pursuit on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Madison on Sunday.
