(On the right Christian Batagin on the 3th step of the podium. Photo Rodella).CORSALONE (AR): La classica più antica del calendario, il 107° Giro del Casentino, ci regala il 3° posto di Christian Bagatin, che ottiene il 2° risultato di prestigio delle gare ferragostane, per il team MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB, dopo il successo di Sergio Meris nella Firenze Viareggio.

Il varesino arriva nel rettilineo d’arrivo con altri 2 corridori e prova a giocarsi le sue possibilità di vittoria in uno sprint che vede prevalere Mirko Bozzola (Q36.5) su Bryan Olivo (Cycling Team Friuli) e appunto Bagatin, al termine dei 166 km di gara coperti a oltre 43 di media oraria in quasi 4 ore.

Per il varesino, nato il 14-06-2002, si tratta di un ritorno sul podio in una stagione che lo ha visto sin qui vincere in 2 occasioni (Giro della Franciacorta il 27 aprile e poi il 1° giugno nella cronometro di Romanengo, che assegnava il titolo lombardo) e 4 terzi posti. Un bottino che inizia a essere importante e che il corridore di Orino vuol ulteriormente impreziosire nella seconda parte di stagione.

Una belle prova di squadra per il team di Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak, Beppe Colleoni e delle famiglie Ballan e D’Aprile.

LO SPRINT: “Siamo arrivati nel finale al termine di un’azione importante durata quasi 70 km. È stato uno sprint piuttosto duro al termine di un’azione allo sfinimento. Infatti, abbiamo lottato con tutte le nostre forze per contenere la rimonta del gruppo. Durante la corsa sentivo di avere buone gambe, ma evidentemente i miei 2 avversari sono giunti con più gambe di me”.
Il passista, al 4° anno nella categoria U23, trova comunque il motivo per sorridere: “Nei giorni scorsi ero abbattuto perché non mi sentivo ancora al top, ma qui ho ritrovato la verve e le gambe migliori. Si stanno facendo sentire i 25 giorni di altura passati a Sestriere con il gruppo della Nazionale. Spero che sia il primo risultato di una serie”.

LA GARA: “Siamo partiti da lontano ed ho sperato di farcela, sentivo di star bene. La prima parte di gara era durissima, poi una fase intermedia ed infine la bagarre finale.”
AMBIZIONI AZZURRE: “Ho lavorato tanto ed ora spero di essermi messo in mostra per poter essere convocato ai Campionati Europei, che si terranno dall’11 al 15 settembre in Belgio, nel Limburgo. I miei programmi a breve prevedono invece Freccia dei Vini e Rovescala.”

TECNICO: In ammiraglia Gianluca Valoti, che commenta la prova del collettivo: “Un bel 3° posto qui in Toscana. Christian dei 3 era il meno veloce e purtroppo non è riuscito a vincere. Resta una prestazione maiuscola dal punto di vista atletico. Dietro va segnalata la buona gara di Sergio Meris, che era nel 2° gruppo, ed il lavoro svolto dal collettivo con Valent, Volpato, Casalini, Monister e Vesco.”

Domani verranno diffuse le convocazioni. Tra i prossimi impegni, il giorno 27 pure il Trofeo Cesa.

TOUR DE L’AVENIR: Da segnalare oggi l’inizio, con un prologo di 7 km, del Tour de l’Avenire. La gara vede al via anche Florian Kajamini, 34° a + 23″ (miglior italiano), e Pavel Novak, 56° a +30°.

3RD PLACE FOR BAGATIN AT GIRO DEL CASENTINO

CORSALONE (AR): The oldest classic on the calendar, the 107th Giro del Casentino, brings the team MBH Bank Colpack Ballan CSB a prestigious 3rd place finish by Christian Bagatin, marking the second notable result of the mid-August races after Sergio Meris‘ victory in the Firenze Viareggio.

The rider from Varese reached the final stretch alongside two other cyclists, attempting to seize his chance in a sprint that saw Mirko Bozzola (Q36.5) edge out Bryan Olivo (Cycling Team Friuli) and Bagatin after 166 km of racing at an average speed of over 43 km/h.

For Bagatin, born on 14-06-2002, this marks a return to the podium in a season where he has already secured two victories (Giro della Franciacorta on April 27 and the time trial in Romanengo on June 1, which awarded the Lombardy title) and four third-place finishes. His tally is becoming significant, and the rider from Orino is eager to add more accomplishments in the second half of the season.

It was an excellent team effort for the squad led by Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak, Beppe Colleoni, and the Ballan and D’Aprile families.

THE SPRINT: “We reached the final after a significant move that lasted almost 70 km. It was a tough sprint after a grueling effort. We fought with everything we had to fend off the chasing group. During the race, I felt strong, but my two opponents evidently had more left in the tank than I did.”

The fourth-year U23 rider still finds reasons to be positive: “I was feeling down recently because I didn’t feel at my best, but here I regained my energy and form. The 25 days of altitude training in Sestriere with the national team are starting to pay off. I hope this is the first of a series of good results.”

THE RACE: “We made our move early on, and I hoped we could pull it off—I was feeling good. The first part of the race was very tough, followed by a more moderate phase, and then the final battle.”

AZZURRI AMBITIONS: “I’ve worked hard, and now I hope I’ve caught the selectors’ attention for a spot at the European Championships, which will be held from September 11 to 15 in Belgium, in Limburg. In the short term, my plans include the Freccia dei Vini and Rovescala.”

COACH: Gianluca Valoti, who was leading the team from the car, commented on the team’s performance: “A nice 3rd place here in Tuscany. Christian was the least fast of the three, and unfortunately, he couldn’t secure the win. Nonetheless, it was an outstanding athletic performance. Behind him, Sergio Meris had a good race, finishing in the second group, and the collective effort by Valent, Volpato, Casalini, Monister, and Vesco was commendable.”

Tomorrow, the team selections will be announced. Among the upcoming commitments is the Trofeo Cesa on the 27th.

TOUR DE L’AVENIR: Today also marked the start of the Tour de l’Avenir with a 7 km prologue. Florian Kajaminifinished 34th, +23″ (the best Italian), and Pavel Novak placed 56th, +30″.
